06 February, 2025 No commentA clinical dietitian nutritionist specializes in providing medical nutrition therapy to help patients grappling with chronic disease (diabetes, fatty liver, cardiovascular) as well as obesity and nutrition-related cancers (colorectal, post-menopausal breast, uterine, esophageal, kidney, and pancreatic cancers).
As clinical nutritionists in the St. Louis Area, we can provide outpatient nutrition counseling (both online and in person). Clinical nutritionists are often found in healthcare settings, like clinical settings such as hospitals and long-term care facilities. The primary goals of clinical nutrition are disease management and prevention.
‘Nutritionist’ and ‘dietitian’ are sometimes used interchangeably, but there are differences regarding education, credentials, scope of practice, regulations, and licensure.
Overall, there can be an overlap; however, dietitians must have a standardized education from an accredited university, whereas clinical nutritionists may come from diverse backgrounds with various levels of certificates.
In short, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, no matter their training. A clinical nutritionist might go on to search out certification (Certified Clinical Nutritionist – CCN), but to be called a dietitian, you must comply with the rigorous education and training requirements, and pass standardized board exams.
If you are a dietitian, looking to get the required supervision hours and CEU credits, contact us. At Branz Nutrition Counseling, we are committed to helping dietitians succeed, ensuring they get their required supervision hours.
