06 February, 2025 No commentPediatric nutrition refers to the nutritional needs and dietary considerations specific to infants, children, and adolescents.
It focuses on providing balanced nutrition to support optimal growth and development during these critical stages of life. Pediatric nutrition involves understanding the unique nutritional requirements of children (from the time of gestation until they are 18 or 19) at different ages and stages of development, as well as addressing any specific dietary concerns or health conditions they may have.
A child nutritionist from our team can help families by providing online or face-to-face nutrition therapy for:
Breastfeeding and infant nutrition
The introduction of solid foods
Improving eating behaviors
Managing picky eating
Managing medical conditions like diabetes and food allergies
Identifying disordered eating behaviors
The prevention and management of eating disorders
A pediatric dietitian plays a critical role in optimizing the nutritional health and quality of life for children (and their families). One of the expert child nutrition therapists on our team will:
Assess your child’s nutritional needs
Develop an individualized nutrition plan
Provide support for infant feeding, toddler, school-aged, and adolescent nutrition
Help manage medical conditions (gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, food allergies, autism and feeding)
Prevent and/or manage eating disorders
Provide nutrition education and counseling for the whole family
Help your child implement sustainable, healthy eating behaviors (like intuitive eating) and lifestyle changes
Collaborate with pediatricians and other healthcare professionals on your child’s team to ensure coordinated care
A child nutritionist can support families with premature babies, children with chronic diseases, teenagers, and more. Dinnertime shouldn’t be battle time, and establishing healthy eating behaviors from an early age can make a significant difference in your child’s cognitive development, academic performance, and social-emotional well-being.
It’s important that you reach out for support if your child:
Is struggling with food intake
Is not getting adequate nutrition
Is struggling with meeting growth curve expectations
Is experiencing weight fluctuations and appetite changes
Is diagnosed with diabetes
Has high cholesterol
Has digestive problems
Has mealtime challenges and disordered eating behaviors
Is a picky eater
